JENNIFER SOMES CHOPE

Maintaining an art studio in Detroit, Michigan, Jennifer Somes Chope paints in oil following the tradition of earlier representational artists and focusing on still life and landscape.  . She is a third generation artist; both of her grandfathers were artists.  Her father is an engineer and so she is attracted to the arrangement of things, composition, color, light, shapes, reflections, shadows – the dance of light and color between objects and their surroundings.  “Painting for me is a joyous affirmation of life and its inherent beauty; an opportunity to ‘swing my arms and swing my mind’.”  She continues her art education by traveling around the country to study with various other established artists
